Sub Kultura is an exhibition
representing the art surrounding and directly involved with skateboarding.
Sub Kultura is directed and curated by ces and produced with Mystic
Skates. The event takes place place in part with the World Cup Skateboarding
Mystic Sk8 Cup 2001 and will run three days from July 6th to July
the 8th, 2001.
Skateboarding is an art in
itself. It only takes watching an experienced skateboarder to recognize
its aesthetic and technical qualities. Directly representing skateboarding
will be art in the form of photography, advertisements, skateboard
graphics, and film. Skateboaring videos and films from the the
US and Europe will presented during the show. Although not directly
involved with skateboarding graffiti, a subculture of its own, will
also be represented. Graffiti connects to skateboarding in the sense
that in its original form it is a street/urban art, performed
with similar motives. A live graffiti exhibition will take place
throughout the weekend. Surrounding and directly involved with skateboarding
as well as graffiti is hip hop. Hip hop has a strong
presense in both realms and will be well represented. All three
forms of art connect and in many cases blend together. Sub Kultura
is a documentation of the these three elements individually and
their interactions together.
All of the artists involved in Sub Kultura are directly
involved with either skateboading, graffiti, or hip hop and in some
cases more than one or all three. The fact that the artists are
all involved in their respective areas and are not just random observers
and reporters insures a genuine documentation and exhibition of
skateboarding and the art surrounding it.
