Charlie Dark is from the era
of history, raised on a heavy diet of sound system culture.
Heęs been behind the decks since he was just sixteen
years old. Over fourteen years deep in the game his
sets showcase a vast spectrum of music both new and
old, from Funk to nu Jazz, to Hip Hop to House and beyond.
His style marries the party vibe of old, alongside the
most cutting edge music of today. I try to play music
I like in an enthusiastic manner that people can get
into. When people see the Dj getting into the music
they feed off that energy and let loose.

Over the past ten years Charlie has played at various
clubs across the globe in every continent. Highlights
include the "Summer Fest" Tour of Australia
with Beck and the Beastie Boys, Giant Steps in New York
and WMF with Jazzanova in Berlin. "Have Dj box
will travel" is the motto and 2001 promises to
be no different. For the first time since the legendary
Mo Wax "Dusted" nights at Londonęs Blue note
Club, Charlie will be co- hosting his latest residency
"The Blue print Sessions" at Plastic People.
"Itęs a chance to play my favourite tunes from
the old days along with all the excellent new stuff
coming out now." All forms of music in one room
played on one of Londonęs heaviest sound systems.

Besides the London residency thereęs also the forthcoming
release of the first Attica Blues Dj mix album "Drum
Major Instinct" (Xtreme Records), a compilation
of fourteen tracks from the Attica vaults and the launch
of their label "Surplus" records, a forum
for unreleased material from the Attic studios. Charlie
has also just completed a track under his new moniker
"Hearts of Oak" for the Zurich based Straight
Ahead Record label with an album in the pipeline. Remix
and production wise itęs business as usual with several
releases to look out for. Check the forthcoming remix
of "Telaviv" for Composts Fauna Flash and
the "Love Variation" remix for Soul patrol
soon out on Infracom. Have record box will travel. Charlie

Jamie Odell is a musician/producer/dj based in
East London. He is co-founder of the Freerange Records
label which was established as an outlet for his own
Jimpster and Audiomontage productions in 1996. Rapidly
forging a name for himself as a leading producer in
the burgeoning nu-jazz, downtempo and jazzy breaks scenes,
he soon found himself remixing and producing for the
likes of Lamb, Airto Moriera and Coldcut.

His "Initial" and "Martian Arts"
EP’s brought acclaim from such luminaries as Mixmaster
Morris, Tom Middleton and Kirk Degiorgio and with the
props came opportunities for collaborations and DJ gigs
which further helped to establish the Jimpster moniker.
His debut album, "Messages From The Hub" successfully
crossed many boundaries with radio support coming from
Patrick Forge and Gilles Peterson as well as Mike Chadwick’s
Cutting Edge show on Jazz FM. His follow up LP "Domestic
Science" has recently been released through Kudos
Records and the singles "Deep Down" and "State
Of Mind" have already had heavy rotation from Robert
Elms on his BBC London Live morning show.

Being a keyboard player himself, Jamie has always
insisted on taking out a live band to perform his tracks
with more of an improvised vibe. Jimpster live gigs
have included the Berlin Jazz festival, Big Chill events,
Ronnie Scott’s and have taken the outfit to cities such
as Lisbon, Tokyo, Dublin and Munich. Jamie is also a
member of highly acclaimed live outfit The Bays, who’s
recent performance on a John Peel session has confirmed
them as the band to be watching on this summers festival
circuit. Their spontaneous and totally improvised gigs
have been building up a buzz with recent gigs including
many of the years biggest festivals such as The Drum
Rhythm and Lowlands festivals in Holland, Ministry Of
Sound festival at Knebworth and PukklePop in Belgium.
For more info on The Bays visit: www.thebays.com

Jamie has been regularly djing for the past 10
years, both in the UK and abroad. With a freestyle approach
inspired by the likes of Francois K, Harvey and Jazzanova,
he’s been booked for gigs as diverse as Fabric, Perverted
Science, Plastic People and the Jazz Cafe. He is a resident
at Freerange’s own night at the Charterhouse Bar and
regularly guests on Kiss FM’s Breakbeat show, Coldcut’s
Solid Steel show on BBC London Live as well as contributing
mixes for internet radio stations such as Groovetech,
Gaia Live and Interactive DJ. Recent gigs have included
Propaganda in Moscow and a tour of Americas west coast.
Forthcoming gigs are confirmed for the Naked party @
the WMC in Miami and a Nine to Five night in Helsinki.

The Prague’s foursome PHANTOMS ON FIRE belongs without
any doubt to the most significiant newcomer’s acts of
czech hc/punk scene for the last months. The band has
been around since the end of 2001 and it was founded
by Robert Robovski, a guitar player of czech premier
hardcore combo KEVORKIAN. He put together a large amount
of musical stuff which was something different that
he used to compose for Kevorkian, so he decided to cooperate
with the excellent drummer Jan Vagner (he’s the current
member of the famous ska band The Chancers as well)
for making up a kind of new band that would kick all
asses around their neighborhood. Later they took on
Petr Hemerka on the bass and singer David Holy (known
from the bands No Reason, Stenmark, 2 Many Days Off
and Evil Punk Crew). After some time Petr was replaced
by Vikk Rehak from Suffer. PHANTOMS ON FIRE succesfully
played several gigs, for example with the U.S. dirty
rock’n’roll legend ANTISEEN or with “rebel punks from
New York” TURBO A.C.’S. All of the PHANTOMS ON FIRE
shows left the visitors amazed at band’s uncompromising
energy, instrumental skill and real rock’n’roll party
atmosphere. The band has recently finished their first
record produced by Robert Robovski that is going to
be released on Badman records in autumn. It is filled
with killing guitar riffs, monster bass and full-of-drive
rhythm parts combined with catchy mellodies. By listening
to the record you can see the aura of the great bands
from the 1960’s and 1970’s like Stooges, MC5, Black
Sabbath, Rolling Stones, Grand Funk Railroad or AC/DC
mixed with punkrock in-your-face attitude represented
by Misfits, Black Flag, Motorhead or Ramones. But even
the fans of today’s popular garage and stoner rock Scandinavian
heroes Hellacopters, Backyard Babies, The Bones or Turbonegro
shouldn’t be disappointed. PHANTOMS ON FIRE arrange
the recording of full-length album in the near future
and the tour will follow. If you notice that PHANTOMS
ON FIRE are playing close to your home, don’t hesitate
to rock the night together with the band...you’ll have
a great time!

We (Míra, Roman, Honza) started to play together in
1996. Since that time we have had to change 4 bass players
to find Vikk who joined the band in winter 2000. Our
first material named "SHUT
UP AND SUFFER" (Samuel
001) was recorded and released on Samuel Recs. as 9-track
CD-R in 1998. Then we started to play more and more
shows over all the Czech Republic and that was the reason
why we were becoming known and popular. In the end of
1999 we went in the Prodigy studio (České Budějovice)
to do another 8-track record. It came out in spring
2000 as "WHEN THE
WHALES DIE…" (Samuel
004). Some months later 5 songs were recorded which
have never been released as one record. 3 of them were
used for some punk rock compilations on various labels
and the other 2 have never been released at all. During
2000 and 2001 we played many shows - no recording these
years. Time for recording came out in fall 2001. There
was a need to change the studio to get a new sound for
the new record. We were recommended to record our new
stuff at Exponent studio (Bratislava - SK). Well, 13
brand new songs + 1 cover song were done in less than
a week and released 6 months later as our first full-legth
album "4 HAPPY GUYS
& BEAUTIFUL GIRLS"
(Samuel 006). The cover song "Rent" (originally
by Pet Shop Boys) is available only at our web site.
One year later we were back in the same studio again
for 3 new songs. 2 of them were specially recorded for
FINAL SK8 comp. and the 3rd one for TRIBUTE to KRITICKÁ
SITUACE (not released yet). During last year we played
many many shows with bands like …. AVAIL
(USA), ENSIGN (USA), LET IT BURN (USA), BAMBIX (NL),
OF NO AVAIL (NL), UPSIDE DOWN (PL), G.A.S. DRUMMERS
(Spain), THE BABOONZ (Ger), ANTISMART (A), etc…
and this spring we have been touring Germany & Poland.
Now we are gonna do our new songs for the new record
which is planned for the next year. Find out more info
