Martin Pek

Last year’s street contest winner and a rider, noticeable not only on the Czech skate scene, started skating at the age of 12. At the time, his parents still thought he would become a basketball player.

“Some boys from the neighbourhood built a skate park at our school’s playground, which for the time had a decent level of quality and I used to watch them skate. I have borrowed a skate a few times and then got one of my own. My parents then gave me my first deck for Christmas and I could get properly started then!”, describes Martin his early days and the journey, which took him towards his pro skating career. His talent for sport is a family inheritance, his mom used to represent the Czech Republic in hockey and his father raced bicycle. Martin’s successes are worth much more due to the fact that he’s come back after a serious open fracture of his lower right leg. This injury took him out when he was in his life form and denied him skating for some time. Today, he’s again pulling off ‘signature tricks’ of his own, of which he has quite a few. And Mystic Skate Cup? It’s in his destiny, as he says: “Every year, Prague has hosted the world’s skateboarding elite which inspired not just me to do what I do today.” Martin is sponsored by Vans, House of Marley, Oakley, Orion Trucks, Ambassadors or Bones. Apart from skating, he likes snowboarding, biking, basketball, travel, photography and shooting video.
